Choosing Your Lot

Planning Your Lot & Home

Choosing your own lot can be a little intimidating; after all, many Canadians look to developers to make their choices for them.

On the other hand, choosing your own lot is a freeing experience – you get to choose where you live, the characteristics of the lot and how you will develop that lot.

Many people ask whether they should choose a house plan and then buy the lot or if they should buy the lot and choose thehouse plan that is perfect for that lot. It’s a bit of a chicken and an egg question. Frank Lloyd Wright believed that the home should celebrate the landscape. His stunning Fallingwater home is built on the top of a waterfall in the midst of a dense forest. It’s spectacular. He chose the lot then imagined the home.

Many families already have the lot – they may have inherited cottage land from their grandparents and parents, establishing a retreat centre for generations to come.

So – what came first the chicken or the egg?

When you are building your dream home on a lot you have chosen, you personal situation determines the sequence. Without question each lot has its own personality and characteristics that determine the home and the style. On the other hand, you may have a dream home in your mind and you may have time to choose the lot that suits it the best.

Like all custom building – it’s really up to you.

I have had about 50-75 people visit my home (lots of company in the neighbourhood) I could only praise Royal. Everyone was impressed.Mai-Liis
