ROYAL HOMES RECYCLING PROGRAM

Royal Homes supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Specifically goal 12.5 which is to substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse.  The Royal Homes factory reduces waste by reusing scrap and has had a recycling program for many years.

Investment in the Recycling Program:

Scrap wood from the factory is picked up by our recycler for processing, it’s chipped and used to produce mulch. We also transport other scrap from our factory to our processor for recycling, which includes ABS pipe, coloured plastics, vinyl siding and house wrap. Both the factory and the head office transport paper, batteries and electronic waste to processors for recycling. We follow the Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines with respect to how hazardous materials are collected, stored, transported, treated, recovered and disposed to reduce adverse effects to human health and the environment.

Recycling copper wire, aluminum, steel, cardboard and clear plastic generates some revenue which helps to offset the investment in the program. Most of these items are bailed to optimize space so that as much material as possible is sent on every truckload. Scrap wood is also reused to make insulation stops for our homes. Finally, any material that is considered to be obsolete is sold or donated to local charities.

At Royal Homes we feel that prefabricating our homes in a factory allows us to better control how scrap materials are handled. This control enables us to efficiently minimize the amount of waste that goes to landfill.
